Enlisting an “Army” of Medical Practitioners

The recent enactment of Section 1262 of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2023, marks a significant shift in the way opioid use disorder (OUD) is managed in the United States. The removal of federal requirements for practitioners to submit a Notice of Intent (have a waiver) to prescribe buprenorphine for OUD treatment potentially allows more medical professionals to be involved in the fight against opioid addiction. While this legislation could be the game changer we’ve been waiting for, its efficacy will hinge on how efficiently and comprehensively we bridge the information gap.
